A Japanese elegant ivory okimono of a geisha with ceremonial kimono entirely engraved with phoenixes, female imperial symbol.

She holds the fan with one hand and raises the kimono with the other, the coin holder is held by the band on the breast that tightens the butterfly-shaped pillow on the back, finely carved and engraved with a pendant bow.

Hair with a chignon called kanzashi with reference to the month of January which has an auspicious theme for the new year. Shōchikuba is a popular choice: a choice of pine (“shō, bamboo (” chiku “) and plum blossoms”) in green, red and white.

Signed Hidemitsu on a red lacquer.

Meiji period 19th century
