A Japanese wooden okimono carved from a single block of excellent luster and patina from the end of the Edo-early Meiji period, depicting a goat and her calf with finely engraved details of the fur, the expressions of the faces and the proportions of the bodies.
The adult rests with its head raised to the left while the young nestles close to the parent’s side to seek shelter.
Signature engraved on wooden dowel applied under the base Furukawa Choen (born 1826).
Meiji period late 19th century
